Romelu Lukaku Re-Enters Milan on Loan
Romelu Lukaku is back at Inter Milan after spending a year at Chelsea.
The 29-year-old Belgian-born striker made his way back to the Serie A giants on Wednesday, 29 June, after joining Chelsea last year for a hefty £97.5-million fee.
Lukaku’s second stint with the Blues wasn’t all too rosy as he didn’t make much of an impact during their English Premier League (EPL) 2021/22 campaign, bagging only eight goals from 26 appearances. His first stint with the club was in 2011 until 2014, with no goals scored from ten games.
Despite a lukewarm performance in the EPL, the footballing prodigal son received a huge welcome at Milan Linate Airport before being swept away to Milan’s headquarters.
The Italian club’s cash flow woes have meant Lukaku has taken a pay cut of €8.5 million for the upcoming season, but his return has meant more as he was “unhappy” playing for Chelsea, which infuriated Blues fans.
He is expected to undergo a medical examination today before coach Simone Inzaghi puts him through his paces for prime time.
